What the Line on Marquette vs. UConn Should Be

The Adjusted Efficiency for both teams arrives at a number of 5.66 with the Huskies having the advantage.  We then multiply that number by the addition of both teams Adjusted Tempo Possessions Per 40 Minutes, which totals 134.2.  We arrive at a number of 758.23, which is then divided by 200.   This gives us a line of UConn 3.79.  However, home court advantage is typically tacked on at 3.50, which results in a line of UConn -7.  The actual early line was coming in at UConn -6.5, so nearly dead on.

The home court advantage can be adjusted based on a team's edge at home and the opponent's weakness on the road.  Tinkering with this number will usually result in a change no greater than a point.

Also it is important to understand that the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings do not take into account any injuries or variables that might otherwise impact a game, at least not immediately.

Marquette beat UConn two out of three times last season but were pummeled by 15 points in Connecticut where the Huskies are currently 13-0 at home.

Marquette (19-5) is a good team, ranked No. 4 in the nation.

The reigning Big East player of the year, Tyler Kolek, scored 27 points, and Oso Ighodaro had 17 points and 10 rebounds to help Marquette hold on for a 78-72 victory against Butler the other night.

“He's motivated. He's always motivated, but even more so (now) to be his best,” coach Shaka Smart said of Kolek. “When you get to this time of the year, senior year, you know that it's go time.”

The No. 1 Huskies have lost just two games this season.

UConn destroyed Dupaul 101-65 in their last game with Alex Karaban scoring 21 points.  He also nailed five 3-pointers.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
