OAKLAND PARK, Fla (Gambling911.com) - A Dhaka, Bangladesh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on Wednesday handed down the death sentence to Hridoy Bepari alias Hridoy Mia for the 2022 murder of his employer, Afroza Sultana, in Dhaka’s Maddhya Badda area.

Judge Moin Uddin Chowdhury of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-3 delivered the verdict.

The motive in the killing was robbery of cash and gold ornaments to cover losses from online gambling.

From the Daily New Nation

According to the prosecution, Afroza Sultana was hacked to death at her residence in Maddhya Badda on March 13, 2022. The investigation gathered momentum after police examined CCTV footage, which led to the arrest of Hridoy. Following his arrest, the convict gave a confessional statement, police said. In his statement, Hridoy admitted that he had become addicted to online gambling and murdered Afroza in an attempt to loot cash and gold ornaments to recover the money he had lost through gambling.

The case was filed by Afroza’s brother, AL Manjil, with Badda Police Station after the killing. The investigation subsequently relied on CCTV evidence and the accused’s confession before the court delivered its judgment on Wednesday.
