LAS VEGAS, Nev (Gambling911.com) - An unidentified woman from Tennessee has filed a lawsuit against MGM Grand in Las Vegas claiming she was sexually assaulted during a massage at the MGM Grand Spa and Salon in Las Vegas.
The incident allegedly occurred in September of 2024 while the accuser stayed at the MGM Grand with her husband.
The woman says she had received massages in the past from from massage therapist Steven Thomas without issue and specifically requested him for the appointment.
The lawsuit alleges she fell asleep during the massage and woke up to “repeated digital penetration” by Thomas. She alleges she left the room and reported the assault to spa staff.
The woman claims MGM is responsible because Thomas was allegedly acting within the scope of his employment. The complaint also alleges MGM knew or should have known of prior assaults, batteries or sexual assaults involving spa and hotel employees, though it does not detail any specific previous incidents.
Thomas himself is apparently not a defendant in this civil suit and he has not responded to the matter publicly.
There is likely good reason for the latter.
According to court records, Thomas was charged with sexual assault in January 2025. He then pleaded guilty to open or gross lewdness, but the plea was later withdrawn. Thomas then pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery in July 2025. He was sentenced to 364 days in prison.
The lawsuit is specific to MGM Grand.
It accuses the hotel/casino property of the following:
- Negligence
- Negligent hiring, training, supervision and retention
- Vicarious liability for Thomas’ actions
- Breach of contract
- Breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing
