Dodgers Juan Soto Odds Heat Up: Payout Was $1200 on a $100 Bet
The World Series could be coming to an abrupt end Tuesday should the Yankees fall to the Dodgers once more.
By late Monday, much of the talk surrounding the Dodgers involved the potential for signing Yankees slugger Juan Soto.
According to RosterResource, the Dodgers already have roughly $257.2MM committed to their 2025 payroll, as well as a $253.1MM estimate on their luxury tax number. The latter again puts the Dodgers over the tax threshold ($241MM) for next season, and naturally adding Soto for a minimum of a $50MM average annual value would put the club over the highest tax penalty tier of $301MM. Since Los Angeles has already been a tax-paying team for the last four seasons, crossing the $301MM threshold would more than double the size of the team’s tax on any overages beyond the $241MM mark.
BetOnline had previously made the LA Dodgers a 12/1 long shot to land Soto.
Soto’s future has been an ongoing story all season long. He had arguably his best season in the Bronx with a career-high in home runs and WAR.
He’s also raking during the postseason with an 1.106 OPS!
The Dodgers, meanwhile, are on the cusp of winning their 8th World Series.
Freddie Freeman homered for the third straight game and Walker Buehler pitched another World Series gem as Los Angeles beat the slumping New York Yankees 4-2 on Monday night for a 3-0 lead in the Fall Classic.
With superstar Shohei Ohtani playing despite a partially dislocated left shoulder, the Dodgers moved within one victory of a surprising sweep in this much-hyped matchup between traditional powers.
“One more win. That’s all I care about right now,” Freeman said.
New York comes into Tuesday night's game as a -150 favorite with Luis Gil slated to start. The Dodgers were yet to list a starting pitcher as of Tuesday morning.
