Morant, Giannis Injuries Odds Update: Playoff Casualties Continue to Mount
(BetOnline News Wire) - Based on the updated playoff odds for the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Lakers, it appears Ja Morant's wrist injury will keep him out of Game 2, and likely the remainder of the series.
We had Memphis listed as a -150 favorite for the series before Game 1 on Sunday. Now, the odds have flipped and over-adjusted, which indicates the level of seriousness anticipated with Morant's wrist.
Had the Lakers walked away with a victory, but without any significant injuries to either team, L.A. would be a -160 to -175 favorite for the remainder of the series.
But the latest odds have the Lakers listed as a massive -255 favorite, which indicates a 77.1% implied probability that they advance from the first round.
Morant's injury wasn't the only significant setback we saw during Sunday's Game 1 quadrupleheader. Giannis Antetokounmpo took a hard fall and left in the first half of the Miami game with a lower back injury.
It appears Antetokounmpo will be back for Game 2, but the Bucks' series odds have been reduced drastically. They had a 92.3% probability of beating the Heat before the series began, but now they are listed with just -275 odds, which equates to a 73.3% chance.
Milwaukee's championship odds have also taken a hit. The Bucks were favorites going into the NBA Playoffs, just ahead of the Celtics, but now Boston holds the top spot in terms of odds.
