A recent poll shows that former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is now within striking distance of the GOP front runner former US President Donald Trump in the upcoming New Hampshire primary.  The margin could close even further with news that former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is dropping out.

Trump is listed as the -325 favorite to win there with Haley promising a payout of $225 on a $100 bet.

A new CNN Poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire shows Trump's lead has been trimmed by single digits in the Granite State.

Trump still holds a meaningful lead in the poll, with the backing of 39% of likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire compared to Haley’s 32%.

Notably, support for Haley has risen 12 percentage points since the last CNN/UNH poll in November.  She is up 18% with Independents and 20% with those who describe themselves as moderate.

A little more than 4 in 10 likely primary voters in the CNN/UNH poll are undeclared voters who plan to vote in the GOP primary (45%), rather than registered Republicans. About one-third describe themselves as moderates (32%).

Trump retains a sizable 40 percentage lead among conservatives, 37 points among registered Republicans and 17 points among those without college degrees, the poll finds.

But Haley tops Trump by 42 points among moderates, 26 points among undeclared voters and 12 points among college graduates.

80% of voters backing Trump say they fully intend to vote for the former president whereby 54%  of Haley’s current backers say they are firmly committed to her.

Just 45% of those backing other candidates are decided.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie came in with 12% backing in New Hampshire.  These votes could go Haley's way as Christie has campaigned as the "Anti-Trump" candidate.  He announced his decision to drop out on Wednesday.

BetOnline Iowa caucus odds do not include Trump.  Instead, betting is available on the 2nd place showing with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis favored at -225 and Haley coming in at 2-1 odds.

Betting on the New Hampshire primary cut off is expected to be before midnight on January 22, the day before primary voting takes place.
