Giants vs. Cowboys Betting Preview Thanksgiving Day 2024

This is not expected to be a lopsided affair as the Cowboys aren't playing much better than the Giants coming into this Thanksgiving Day game.

Granted the Cowboys stunned Washington last week.

Austin Seibert choked back tears taking responsibility for missing the extra point that would have tied the score in the final minute. Jeremy Reaves choked back tears blaming himself for a missed assignment that led to a kickoff return touchdown. And John Bates choked back tears talking about moving forward from his costly fumble.

All of those late mistakes contributed to the Washington Commanders' third consecutive loss, 34-26 to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in a game that was wholly unremarkable until fourth quarter chaos.

“Any time you lose a game or you lose a game in that type of fashion, it’s very difficult and it’s tough, but it never comes down to one play,” rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels said. “There’s plays throughout the game where little things add up to big things.”

Meanwhile, Tommy DeVito did nothing to help the NFL's lowest-scoring offense. He threw for 189 yards, mostly in the second half with New York well on its way to its sixth straight loss at home, where it is winless.

The Tampa Bay Bucs held New York to three first downs and 45 yards in the first half, and they finished with 450 yards to the Giants' 245.

DeVito had a 17-yard run in the fourth quarter to set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Devin Singletary. The brash New Jersey native was sacked four times, including once in the fourth quarter, which forced him to go to the bench for one play.

Dallas opened as a -2.5 home favorite.  That line has only moved up a half point. Between 80% and 90% of the bets were coming in on the Cowboys.

Sagarin suggests a line of 5.52 here.

Underlays in this range tend to be very good for the favorite.

Comparables

  • Tennessee +2.5 to +3 Pittsburgh (PIT 4.37 Underlay of 1.5 to 2) - The home favorite covers.
  • Chargers +2.5 Steelers (Steelers 4.05 Underlay) - The home favorite covers.
  • Washington +2.5 to +3 Iowa (Iowa 5.62 Underlay) - The home favorite covers.
  • California +2.5 FSU (FSU 6.27 Big Underlay) - The home favorite covers.
  • Boston College +2.5 Virginia Tech (favorite Virginia Tech wins by double digits) 7.48 Underlay of 5 - Home favorite covers.
  • Houston +2.5 / +3 Indianapolis (road dog Houston covers) Indianapolis 3.88 Underlay 1 to 1.5 points - Road dog does cover.
  • Iowa State +2.5 to +3 Iowa (Iowa 4.12 Underlay) - The road dog covers.

Look for Dallas to cover in this one despite all the action coming the Cowboys way.
