Will Rams’ Wide Receiver Puka Nacua Really Retire at 30?
Los Angeles Rams’ Star Receiver Revealed He Wants to Retire by Age 30.
Aiming for a Short Career
One of the more intriguing storylines of the current NFL offseason involves the standout wide receiver Makea (Puka) Nacua of the Los Angeles Rams. A two-season veteran at the ripe old age of 23, Nacua has become a star.
Bursting on the scene with rookie records of 105 receptions and 1,486 yards (six touchdowns) in his Pro Bowl season of 2023. Nacua was slowed by injury this past season. He still hauled in 79 passes (990 yards) in 11 NFL games, despite missing significant time with a preseason (aggravated in regular season) injured knee.
All in all, that’s not bad, considering Nacua was originally a fifth-round selection (177th overall).
What has kept Nacua in the news, however (besides his exploits on the field), is his desire to leave pro football using the same time frame as former Rams’ All-Pro teammate Aaron Donald. “I know I want to retire at the age of 30.”
If you’re keeping track of the NFL schedule, that’s right around the 2031 season, so not exactly imminent, but certainly quite newsworthy.
Nucua, who played collegiately at both Washington and Brigham Young, wants to emulate Donald’s “going out on top” pro career. Winning a Super Bowl title (after the 2021 season), Donald ended his soon-to-be Hall-of-Fame decade in the league after 2023.
Donald also cited “burnout” and “a lack of passion,” neither of which has affected Nucua.
Puka Nucua’s retirement is a few seasons down the road, no concern among the SoFi Stadium faithful…at least now.
Here’s a bit of a primer on Nucua as he prepares to enter his third season with the Rams.
What Is Puka Nacua’s Ethnicity?
According to our good friends on the internet, Puka Nacua’s ethnicity is Samoan, Hawaiian, and Portuguese. Puka is said to mean “fat and chubby” in Samoan. While that may have described Nacua as a child, he’s 6-foot-2 and 212 pounds, so no “Puka” now.
Nacua has excelled to the point that he’s on the 2025 MVP board, currently at 100-1 (+10000), according to NFL betting odds.
Is Puka Nacua Retiring?
Conversation about Puka Nacua’s retirement has made the rounds this offseason since he himself broached the subject, saying he wants to exit the NFL at the age of 30, which is about seven seasons down the road.
Meanwhile, Puka Nacua’s age (he doesn’t turn 24 until late May) and the fact that the Rams imported six-time Pro Bowl receiver Davante Adams to be his opposite number should make Navua even more of a threat.
By the way, Nacua ceded his No to Adams, and he’ll return to his “family number” of 12 beginning in 2025.
Does BetUS Offer Constant Updates on NFL Games Betting Odds?
NFL picks and predictions include a plethora of props on which to wager, led by the “Who is going to win the next title?”
Super Bowl LX winner odds find the defending-champion Philadelphia Eagles at tepid 13-2 (+650) favorites to repeat what the game is played in northern California, at least as March prepares to morph into April.
Four other teams are under double figures on the board, with Nacua and his Rams currently at 25-1 (+2500). LA was 10-7 and the NFC West champ in 2024, having finished top 10 in passing offense.
Remember, the odds are fluid both during the offseason and regular season, off the board, so don’t forget to check with regularity before wagering.
Any Final Thoughts?
NFL news as well as NFL rumors are a continuous, 12-month loop, with Puka Nacua thinking out loud one of the stories of the moment ahead of the draft in late April.
