2025 Rooting Map From BetOnline Show That Not All Canadians Are Backing Edmonton
The map below, courtesy of BetOnline.ag, is based on geotagged X data from Sunday evening to now (when matchups were set), tracking official fan hashtags in both the US states and Canadian provinces, to determine who was rooting for who in the Stanley Cup Conference Finals.
For example, #TimeToHunt (Panthers), #RaiseUp (Hurricanes), #LetsGoOilers (Oilers), #TexasHockey (Starts). Over 90,000 tweets were tracked.
As you can see from the map, America is split between the Stars and Hurricanes, while most of Canada is going with the Oilers.
The Florida Panthers aren't getting much fan interest at all as only one state/province is rooting for them. It could be because they won the Cup last year, and the fact their fan interest doesn’t extend much outside of South Florida.
Most of Canada is still looking for a Canadian team to end the Stanley Cup drought (a Canadian team hasn't won in over 30 years). Additionally, the Oilers haven't won in 35 years, Dallas hasn't won in 26 years, and the Hurricanes haven't won in 20 years...
So basically, if Florida defeats the Hurricanes to make the Finals, it is essentially going to be all of the US and Canada vs Florida...
Here's the breakdown:
Stars - 24 states, 1 province (AL, AK, AZ, AR, CT, DE, HI, KS, LA, ME, MD, MA, MS, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OK, RI, TX, UT, VT, WA, British Columbia)
Hurricanes - 23 states, 1 province (CA, CO, GA, IL, IN, IA, KY, MI, MN, MO, NV, NC, ND, OH, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, VA, WV, WI, WY, Ontario)
Oilers - 2, states, 8 provinces (ID, MT, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island Newfoundland and Labrador)
