Entertainment Betting Odds Recap: Juan Williams Axing Odds

Gambling911.com has scoured the World Wide Web this day October 22, 2010 for all the latest celebrity gossip and meaty scandal news.  As a result we’ve come up with some interesting entertainment odds.  First, the Juan Williams flap.  Does he or does he not get his job back from NPR?

Juan Williams Fallout – Williams is a long time journalist, a Fox News contributor and a former National Public Radio (NPR) commentator.  Williams was axed by the later for comments he made on Fox News.

“I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

Odds that favor his return to NPR:  Williams has received support from both those on the right and those on the left following his firing.  There has actually been little support in favor of letting Williams go.

NPR, a network for which I have the utmost respect, made a huge mistake by firing Juan Williams. They should say they're sorry and offer him his job back, now.

It is hard to read this as anything other than payback to someone who has been a regular commentator on Fox News for many years. It looks like the liberal network was salivating, searching for an excuse to get rid of someone they'd long ago decided was an irritant. If that was the reason for the firing, NPR brass should have had the guts to come out and say it.

Should enough people come forward to protest the firing, NPR could be forced to reinstate Williams.  After all, they are tax-payer funded.  Whether there is enough of a public outcry beyond the typical 24-hour news span remains to be seen.

Odds that favor Juan Williams will not be returning to NPR: Many in the media have speculated that there were ulterior reasons for NPR getting rid of Juan Williams.  Quite possibly they weren’t enamored with his regular appearances on Fox News. 

NPR issued the following statement Thursday:

"His (Juan Williams) remarks on 'The O'Reilly Factor' this past Monday were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR."

The Council of Islamic Relations (CAIR) also wanted Williams fired.

Gambling911.com says the odds of Juan Williams returning to National Public Radio are about 3/1 as of Wednesday night, but these odds will get much longer if he’s still not employed there in the next 7 days.
