Las Vegas Casino Bathroom Robberies Routine?

Did it have to take a weekend murder of a man in a Las Vegas casino bathroom to wake Sin City gaming establishments up to the fact that – Yes, holdups committed in bathrooms are just as serious as those committed on the street.

Apparently, the casinos in Vegas never quite understood this notion.

Case in point, when World Series of Poker finalist Scott Montgomery was held up and robbed of all his money in the bathroom of the Bellagio Hotel earlier this month, the poker sector actually questioned his story, asking how it could be that security was not tighter in the restrooms of an establishment like the Bellagio.

Worse still, Montgomery claims that security acted nonchalant about the whole ordeal.

Nobody even asked him to review security footage after taking 15 minutes to respond to his call for help. By then, the bandit was likely elsewhere on the Vegas strip.  Or perhaps he was still robbing people in the Bellagio bathroom based on what transpired over the weekend.

North Las Vegas police this week charged a man for murdering a casino patron in the Opera House Casino bathroom during a botched robbery.

Most disturbing perhaps, news reports suggest Stefon Clark, 21, of Henderson, had been “robbing casino customers at gunpoint in a bathroom”, emphasis on the plural “customers”

It would seem based on Scott Montgomery’s report and the news emerging from the Opera Casino murder that holdups in Vegas casino bathrooms may actually be “routine”.  After the first holdup, shouldn’t security have entered that bathroom within a minute’s time?

From KTNV:

The investigation indicates that 21 year old Henderson resident Stefon Clark was robbing people in the casino bathroom.

During one of the robberies the victim was shot several times.  The victim's identity has not yet been released.

It took a murder before casino security was able to apprehend the suspected gunman and hold him until North Las Vegas Police arrived.
