The Central American nation of Costa Rica has been hit by mudslides, claiming the lives of some 23 people.  Hardest hit was Escazu, a suburb of the capital San Jose.  Escazu is home to most of Costa Rica’s expats from both the United States and Canada.

Costa Rica is the largest online gambling hub in the world, catering mostly to the US and Canadian gambler.  It is home to such well known names in the industry as PokerStars, BetCRIS (Bookmaker.com), Sportsbook.com and BetUS.com.  None of these businesses have been negatively impacted by the mudslides of this past week.

According to the Red Cross, more than 2,000 people across the country are in temporary shelters due to heavy rain which the government said has been more damaging than anything similar in more than a decade.

Several communities in this Central American nation remain isolated due to destroyed bridges, highway damage and roads blocked by landslides.

Floods have killed at least 300 people throughout Central America.
