Senate Leader Harry Reid has opted not to attach his Internet poker draft bill to the controversial tax extension measure.  Instead, he is targeting a spending bill that could still pass during the lame duck session.

His bill looks to legalize online poker in the US and tax the industry.

"Experienced regulators already trusted by millions of Americans will maintain oversight and reputable operators with proven track records will provide a secure gaming environment for Americans," Reid said.

Online poker is a multi-billion dollar industry even with the prohibition.  A billion dollars was bet by Americans this past year.

Reid’s bill is heavily backed by the Las Vegas casinos.
