Carrie Stroup here with my 2010 Week 16 NFL predictions.  As always I will look at which teams are getting the most action, then bet against those teams with the premise that “the house always wins over the long run”.  I’ll then check out some important trends and which teams I believe have an edge where such trends are concerned.

The only team getting extremely lopsided action (at better than 90 percent on the spread) was the Baltimore Ravens.  Here I will be on the Cleveland Browns at home at +4.

The Colts are the next most wagered on team, however, they are getting well under 70 percent of the backing in their respective game against Oakland.  The Raiders were also one of the top 10 most bet on teams, making this among the most in-demand games of the week.

Looking at some great trends in helping arrive at my 2010 Week 16 NFL predictions, Minnesota is just 0-6 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record this season and 0-8 ATS as an underdog this season.  Hate the double digits but can’t pass up Philadelphia at -14 especially with a blizzard anticipated.

Do I dare go with Washington at +7? Jacksonville is 1-8 ATS as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points over the last 3 seasons.  They are also 0-8 ATS  off a loss against a division rival over the last 3 seasons.  I’m stopping just short of jumping on the Redskins, but this is one you may want to look at closely.

Seattle is 3-12 ATS in road games over the last 2 seasons.  That’s all that matters, especially against a good Tampa Bay team.  Tampa Bay -6.5.

Denver is  is 0-6 ATS when playing against a team with a losing record this season.  They are also 3-13 ATS in home games against conference opponents over the last 3 seasons.  They are 6-16 ATS in home games over the last 3 seasons.  Texans -3.

New York Giants are 15-4 ATS in road games against NFC North division opponents since 1992.  Giants +3.

Also liking the Atlanta Falcons Monday Night.  They are 4-1 against the spread versus New Orleans over the last 3 seasons, 15-5 ATS as a favorite over the last 2 seasons and 21-9 ATS in all games over the last 2 seasons.

NFL betting used to be built mostly around teams. Bettors looked at spreads, totals, moneylines, injuries, weather and coaching matchups. Those pieces are still there, but the modern football betting board is much more player-driven than it used to be.
