New Jersey Governor Vetoes 14 Bills: Internet Gambling Spared?
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie pulled out his veto pen heading into this week, blocking 14 pieces of legislation. As of press time, a measure to legalize Internet gambling was not among those bills vetoed but he has until this Thursday to do so, otherwise, the bill becomes law.
The bill in question was proposed by State Senator Raymond Lesniak and would legalize online gambling, including poker, for the state's nearly 9 million residents.
These bills would reduce revenues by at least $600 million in the first year and billions of dollars over time, without providing a single funding source or corresponding budget reduction to pay for them.
