An English poker champion plucked from his Worcestershire home and ferried 4,776 miles to stand trial in the 1997 slaying of his wife landed in a Garfield County detention center Sunday.

Marcus Bebb-Jones, 46, was arrested in November after a 12-year investigation that authorities say implicated him in the death of Sabrina Bebb-Jones when the couple lived in Garfield County. Sabrina Bebb-Jones' skull was discovered in a wooded area on Douglass Pass in 2004.

County authorities obtained Bebb- Jones' extradition with help from Scotland Yard.

After allegedly killing his wife, Bebb- Jones used her credit cards to lead a "playboy lifestyle" in Las Vegas, according to a report in the London Telegraph.

Sabrina and Marcus Bebb-Jones once owned the Hotel Melrose in Grand Junction. Marcus, who was then 34, told police his wife left the city with the couple's then-3-year-old son after the couple argued at Mesa Mall.

He later told guests at the hotel that he was headed to Las Vegas to look for his wife, who grew up in the area.

The couple's son was found alone in a Las Vegas motel room Sept. 21, 1997. The next day, Marcus Bebb-Jones apparently tried to kill himself. He shot himself in the head, but the wound was not life-threatening.
