Ohio State Buckeyes Favorite to win NCAA Championship Even With Horrible Draw
Despite getting what Las Vegas oddsmakers are calling one of the worst draws in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the Ohio State Buckeyes are still favored to win the championship both in Vegas and online.
Las Vegas Hilton sports book executive director Jay Kornegay said the Buckeyes are 7-2 favorite to win NCAA title, even with the bad hand they were dealt.
“Actually, Pitt and Ohio State should be switching spots," Kornegay said. "Ohio State should be No. 1 in the easier Southeast, and Pitt in the East. It's unusual for the overall No. 1 to have to deal with that kind of competition.''
Online at Sportsbook.com, Ohio State is listed at +350 (American odds), paying $35 for every $10 bet or $350 for every $100 bet with a win. That number translates to the same odds being offered up at the Hilton.
The concerns oddsmakers have with the Buckeyes is that the NCAA placed them in the toughest division.
"There's four legit national champion contenders in the same bracket," said Mike Colbert, who runs books at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, M Resort, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Tropicana. "Ohio State, North Carolina, Syracuse and Kentucky. It's a loaded bracket. It doesn't make any sense."
