UNC, the No. 2 seed in the East Regional, will play Long Island University, the No. 15 seed, in their home state at 7:15 p.m. ET at Time Warner Cable Arena, located in Charlotte.
That is a major advantage as the Tar Heels are 27-1 in home tournaments.
"Our expectations have risen," said sophomore guard Leslie McDonald. "Seeing the season we've had and our comeback, we have so much motivation and so much swagger and so much passion to come out here and give it our all."
But fresh in the minds of North Carolina’s players is the upset that occurred Thursday where Morehead State beat number-four seeded Louisville.
"I think that shows you," forward John Henson said, "one bad game can send you home."
Long Island (LIU) hasn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since 1997. They have the longest active winning streak at 13 games and have won more road trips than any other team in the country (13). Their only road game against a major conference school did, however, result in a loss.
"We like playing on the road," said LIU guard Kyle Johson. "We like taking the crowd out of the game. It gives us excitement and we look forward to stuff like that."
North Carolina is 6-0 Against The Spread in all their NCAA Tournament games over the past three years.
