"We just won a game against an outstanding team," Texas coach Rick Barnes said. "A team that's tough, hard-nosed and not going away. We knew they'd fight."
Tristan Thompson had 17 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks Friday, the fourth player in the past five years to get at least 15 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in a tournament game.
Arizona, meanwhile, came even closer to an elimination with a two-point win over number 12-seeded Memphis.
Derrick Williams recorded his 12th double-double of the season (22 points, 10 rebounds) and blocked a potential tying shot with 3 seconds left to help Arizona advance to play Texas.
"It's as if he's playing in his backyard," Wildcats coach Sean Miller said. "He just has a way of making big plays and finishing the other team off. He did it here again tonight."
The Wildcats have won five of their past six and 13 of 16 games overall.
