Butler –Wisconsin Line

The Butler-Wisconsin line opened at Badgers -4 with 75 percent of the spread action on Wisconsin and 85 percent of the total action on the OVER 123.5.   All odds were courtesy of Sportsbook.com.  Gambling911.com calculations suggest that the line on this game should have opened Wisconsin -7.

Butler is widely being held up as “America’s Team” especially after beating the mighty number one seeded Pittsburgh Panthers Saturday in what was a controversial game won by a single point in the final seconds:  71-70.

ESPN.com reported on the questionable call that sent the Bulldogs into the Sweet 16:

Officials Terry Wymer, Antonio Petty and crew chief John Higgins were front and center at the end of Saturday's Pittsburgh-Butler game. Wymer called the foul that sent Pittsburgh's Gilbert Brown to the free throw line with 1.4 seconds left. After Brown tied the game, Petty made the foul call on Nasir Robinson that sent Matt Howard to the line for what proved to be the winning free throw.

Higgins talked to a pool reporter about why the officials checked the monitors after both fouls.

"When we recognized the foul [on Shelvin Mack], we got the clock stopped, went to the monitor. [Wymer] was right at 1.4 so that's where we put the clock," Higgins said, adding that a foul call is not reviewable.

"When the second foul happened [on Nasir Robinson], we looked at it. We went to the monitor, checked when the foul occurred and the fist came up and then set the clock."

Butler became only the third team in NCAA tournament history to defeat a number one seed before the Final Four in consecutive years.  They were listed with greater than 100/1 odds of winning the 2011 NCAA Championship prior to the start of the Tournament.  Butler has won 11 straight overall and is 7-1 in its last eight NCAA tournament games.

Wisconsin comes into this game after a 70-65 win over Kansas State.

The Badgers could soon set an NCAA record with 7.56 turnovers per game in addition to being the best free throw shooting team in the country.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
