Missouri vs. Texas was among the most bet on of the College Football games heading into this weekend, and with good reason. For the first time since 1984, the Longhorns are ranked No. 1 in the regular season.

As Yahoo Sports points out, with three teams ranked in the top 11 next up on the schedule, there's a strong possibility Texas (6-0, 2-0 Big 12) could tumble. Recent history suggests it could happen, as well, since three No. 1 teams already were dumped, including the opponent the Longhorns dispatched on Oct. 11, arch-rival Oklahoma.

"We shouldn't have jumped from five to one," said Brown, who pushed Alabama for the No. 1 spot. "It's really insignificant, except the teams that are up there all want to fight to get in the BCS mix at the end."

The Longhorns look to remain undefeated and protect their first regular-season No. 1 ranking since 1984 on Saturday night when they host the 11th-ranked Tigers, who hope to bounce back from their first loss and keep their conference title hopes alive.

Texas (6-0, 2-0) entered last week as the fifth-ranked team in the country, but hadn't been challenged in its first five games, each of which the Longhorns won by at least 24 points.

"Right now, this team would be known for heart and character and toughness," said Texas coach Mack Brown, whose team hosts No. 8 Oklahoma State and visits No. 7 Texas Tech following this game. "Everybody has questioned this team, including me. I didn't know how good we are."

Texas opened as a -6 ½ favorite in this one and has since dropped down to -4 at Bookmaker.com. 75 percent of the betting public was on the Longhorns in this one.

Missouri is 1-5 SU in its last 6 games when playing Texas.

The Longhorns have won the past four meetings by an average of 23.0 points.
