A SWAT team descended upon the home of Steven Warda Goria Monday and he was taken into custody after a two-hour standoff.  Goria was one of 10 individuals implicated in a shocking point shaving scheme at the University of San Diego.

Former San Diego star Brandon Johnson, the school’s all time leading scorer, was also charged with running a sports betting business and attempting to fix the outcome of games as part of an indictment unsealed on Monday.

From ESPN.com:

The indictment alleges that Johnson, 24, took a bribe to influence a USD game in February 2010 and solicited someone else this January to affect the outcome of USD basketball games while playing for the Dakota Wizards, a development team for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies. Johnson, a guard for the Toreros from 2005 to 2010, finished with 1,790 points and 525 assists.

The indictment, handed up Friday by a federal grand jury in San Diego and unsealed Monday, alleges that Brown, 32, of El Cajon, and Dowdy, 22, of San Diego, solicited someone to affect the outcome of a game at the University of California, Riverside in February.

According to the San Diego Tribune, Goria refused to cooperate with authorities, and a SWAT team was called about 9 a.m., which resulted in the evacuation of some residents. Goria surrendered to authorities about 10:40 a.m.

The sports bribery case actually arose from an investigation into a marijuana distribution operation based in San Diego.

The University is said to be cooperating with law enforcement and was unaware of what had transpired.

Each of the individuals face a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
