More Headaches for PokerStars as Company Faces Australia Action
PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker room, could be fined in Australia.
One of its subsidiaries has reportedly been in violation of national law, which stipulates that online betting firms cannot advertise in Australia.
The focus of an investigation is on GP Information Services, which is owned by a subsidiary of PokerStars, Oldford Group.
Enforcing the law might be tough according to according to Australia's controversial digital economy authority: "As the internet is a cross-jurisdictional medium, it is difficult for Australia to enforce our laws on companies not based in Australia."
In the past, other companies were found to be in violation. Australian television stations Network Ten and the Nine Network received a mere slap on the wrist late last year.
PokerStars was indicted by US authorities on April 15.
