Professional poker player Daniel Negreanu claimed to Covers.com on Thursday that the April 15 indictments and subsequent shutdowns of the three largest Internet poker rooms in the United States will result in massive unemployment.  And it’s not just because poker players are no longer able to play and make a living off their wins.

These very same poker players, Negreanu suggests, will now be entering the workforce, all 100,000 plus.

“I think a lot of money is still tied up online, and I think you’re going to see a whole bunch of young, 20-something guys who are really geniuses entering a job market that is already crowded and taking jobs from other people.

“So this isn’t just going to affect poker players, it’s going to affect other people who are going to be less qualified than some of these really intelligent guys.

“We’ve really screwed up in a monstrous way; it’s not just the 100,000 people out of jobs in this country, it’s all the other people who are going to be shut out of jobs.

Negreanu suggested that many of the poker pros will be making a mass exodus out of the US.  Negreanu himself will be moving back to his native Toronto, Canada.
