Quadjacks.com is reporting that the world’s largest online poker room, PokerStars, is to pull out of the Australian market August 1 amidst legal concerns brewing in that country.  This move would follow PokerStars exit from the US market following an indictment on April 15 against the company and two of its executives.

From Quadjacks.com:

We just got news that PokerStars will be pulling out of the whole Australian market as of August 1st 2011, the news broke from Chris Levick (@PokerDomeAA) on his twitter which looked like this,,,,,,

In a stunning announcement Poker Stars has withdrawn from the Australian market from August 1st. Devestating news.

It looks like PokerStars has insight that one of their subsidiaries (GP Information Services) based in Erina Heights which is in a suburb of Gosford in New South Wales, has been under the radar by the Australian authorities. GP according to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission is owned by Oldford Group which is one of the business entities involved in black friday. GP Information Services provides marketing services for Pokerstars for the Australian market, which under the current law they are unable to market to Aussie players directly, this is from the 2001 IGA law.

Gambling911.com’s own Greg Tingle has been covering these developments from Australia and we will bring more as news becomes available.
