Poker News: World Series of Poker Likely to Break Attendance Record

All the pundits insisted this year’s World Series of Poker would likely have the lowest attendance in years following the April 15 indictments of three massive US-facing online poker rooms.   There would be limited online satellite entries while countless numbers of players had their funds tied up in Full Tilt Poker and UB.com, neither of which are yet to pay out their US customers. 

Instead we are looking at record breaking attendance at the 2011 World Series of Poker.  The tournament is on track to break last year’s record of 72,000 with most events exceeding 2010 numbers. 

"We're looking to crush that number this year," says Ty Stewart, the Executive Director of the World Series of Poker. "We have 400 poker tables in here, and they're all at capacity."

Attendance is up more than 10 percent thus far over last year. 

Exact attendance numbers won't be revealed until after the World Series of Poker ends on July 16th.
