The oddsmakers have instilled Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez as the favorite to be top goal scorer in the 2011 – 2012 Premiership.  William Hill listed Herandez’ odds at 8/1.  Gambling911.com continues its look at odds on everything Premiership 2011/2012.

A few of the online bookmakers did list Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Carlos Tevez with shorter odds of 7/1.  On average, Hernandez did come off as the favorite.

Hernandez helped his national team, Mexico, defeat Guatemala in the Gold Cup a few days back with a 2-1 victory.

He told L’Equipe: “Early in the season, I thought I would have limited playing time, or very limited. At best, I thought my season would involve me being a joker who came off the bench late in the game trying to unlock a complicated situation.

“Basically, the goal of the season was essentially to adapt to the Premier League, especially physically. But gradually I got playing time, and I started to feel confident, scoring a few goals early in the season.

“Everything went so fast. I could not have hoped for such a good campaign. I had a dream season.”

Javier Hernández Balcázar (nicknamed Chicharito) is the first Mexican to play forward for Man United.  On 8 May, Hernández scored the opening goal in a 2–1 home win over Chelsea after just 36 seconds to leave United one point away from winning the title.  The goal against Chelsea made him the first player since Ruud van Nistelrooy to score 20 goals for the club in his debut season.  Hernández capped his debut season with Manchester United by winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award on 18 May which was voted for by the fans.

William Hill’s most competitive pricing for top Premiership goal scorer were on Wayne Rooney at 9/1 and Darren Brent at 14/1.  Rooney was listed at 8/1 odds at most bookmakers early on while Brent was anywhere from 10/1 to 12/1 at a number of William Hill’s competitors.
