Barcelona Bid £27m for Arsenal Cesc Fábregas
Reports emerged on Friday that Barcelona had made a £27m bid for Arsenal skipper Cesc Fábregas. While initially rejected, there were additional reports suggesting that a £35m bid may be presented next.
Arsenal rejected an opening bid of £35m last summer, so few were surprised to see the club immediately turn down the initial £27m oral bid made by Barcelona.
While Arsenal privately values Fábregas at £44m, Barcelona’s president has gone on record as saying he is not worth more than £35.5 million and that his value continues to decrease.
Fàbregas did not play in the League Cup Final, however his misplaced backheel pass during the second leg of the Champions League game against Barcelona allowed his club to remain in contention for the league title until a series of draws in the final third of the season caused Arsenal to fall far enough behind.
The Spanish footballer has previously been named Professional Footballers' Association Team of the Year
Arsenal was listed with 7/1 odds of winning the 2011-2012 Premier LeagueChampionship while Barcelona is an 11/5 favorite to win the next Champions League.
