The Stewart Downing potential transfer to Liverpool may have caused odds to shift from 11 to 1 to 10 to 1 this week. At least one online bookmaker, BoyleSports.com out of Ireland, had Liverpool’s odds of winning the 2011 – 2012 Premier League at 9 to 1.
Liverpool and Aston Villa agreed this week to around a £20 million fee. While not quite considered a “done deal”, it appeared to be all but certain.
Liverpool have spent heavily already in the transfer window signing of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam, but oddsmakers still do not believe they are anywhere close to competing with the likes of Man United, Chelsea and Man City.
