Andy Hornby has begun his reign as Chief Executive of Coral, one of the world’s biggest bookmakers.

It had taken the firm nearly a year to replace former CEO Nick Rust, who departed for Ladbrokes.

Hornby had previously been chief executive of HBOS during the financial crisis, when saw losses of £11bn before it was bought by rival Lloyds Banking Group, CITY AM reported.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed Hornby’s hiring this week:  “We are delighted to confirm that Andy Hornby has been appointed chief executive and will be responsible for Coral’s retail and online operations.”
