International Interest in the World Series of Poker Intensifies
One of the most noticeable differences at this year’s World Series of Poker, the increase in international media attention and coverage.
“The media interest this year was approximately the same as the last year in terms of the number of credentials,” WSOP Media Director, Nolan Dalla told PocketFives.com in our exclusive interview. “The only shift that was noticeable was seeing more foreign press and more press from different nations. We’re definitely seeing more international mainstream press.”
The trend is bound to continue as the WSOP plays up international competition much like what we see with the Olympics and World Cup.
This year’s World Series of Poker final table is among the most internationally diverse ever with players representing the United States, United Kingdom, The Ukraine, Czech Republic, Ireland and Belize. A player from the world’s biggest Internet gambling hub, Costa Rica, just missed the final cut.
