Ron Paul Nearly Wins GOP Iowa Straw Poll

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann won the GOP Iowa Straw Poll on Saturday, but Texas Congressman Ron Paul came within a percentage point of beating the Iowa-born Bachmann.

Paul tweeted late Saturday following the results:

“We won a historic number of votes in Iowa today! 27.6% vs. 28.5 percent!”

Overall vote numbers had Bachmann beating Paul 4,823 to 4,671.

Representative Paul is a strong advocate for legalized online gambling.  His objective, and the reason why he has co-sponsored industry-related bills in the past, has to do more with personal freedoms than his own personal stance related to gambling.  In fact, the Congressman has said he is not a gambler.

“I'm a fan of allowing people to enjoy themselves and I enjoy myself when I know people can make their own choices with what they want to do with their life and money,” Paul told Gambling911.com’s own Jenny Woo.
