Man City was coming into its Saturday matchup as the 1/6 favorite against Wigan Athletic amidst news that Carlos Tevez has been removed as captain.  This is said to be the result of his perceived “disloyalty” and a desire to transfer from the team.  Tevez gets his first start on Saturday.

"The reasons are simple," said City's manager, Roberto Mancini. "Carlos wanted to leave for family reasons. I respected his opinion but Carlos is still here because we didn't find a solution for him. He's a fantastic player for us, someone who can score 20 goals a season, but I decided in the summer that Vinnie was the captain."

Tevez expected to maintain his captaincy saying “I'm captain and the symbol of a big club".

Vincent Kompany will replace Tevez as club captain.
