A new online gambling company, GTBets.com, has taken over the accounts of VIP Sportsbook, BetGameDay.com and Nine.com customers.  The VIP Sportsbook Group was among the most respected in the Internet sports betting community since coming online in 1997.  They announced their closure would take place this past August 1.

Unlike VIP Sportsbook, et al, which had stopped accepting new US customers since late 2006, GTBets.com is taking on new customers from the US in anticipation of upcoming regulations in the States.

A handful of established online gambling companies exited the lucrative American market over the summer while others like BetOnLine.com sought to capitalize.  The result early in the day during the first Sunday of the 2011 NFL regular season was a site that crashed due to the massive influx of new and existing customers placing bets.  By early Sunday afternoon, the BetOnLine.com website was back up and working while their call center attempted to handle the online player based throughout the downtime.

“This was a common theme years ago the first Sunday of a new NFL season where websites were unable to stay up while call centers would often crash during peak crunch times,” noted Payton O’Brien, Senior Editor of the Gambling911.com website.  “This is why we always urge readers to get their bets in early, preferably before Sunday.”

Unlike in previous years, the action doesn’t just stop at kickoff and start trickling in again for the second half of the afternoon.  Mobile and in-progress betting means the sites remain active throughout the entire afternoon straight into the evening.
