Michael Gaughan Online Poker Site Approved by Nevada Gaming Board

The highly anticipated debut of the South Point Hotel and Casino online poker site comes with the blessing of the Nevada Gaming Board. 

SouthPointPoker.com, a website developed by our good friends at Level Media, entered the play-for-fun-while-we-wait-for-legislation-in-the-US market on Wednesday.  

Michael Gaughan’s property in the first US-based casino operation to open an Internet poker room in the US.

In an interview with PokerNews.com, Gaughan discussed why he chose to enter the fray so early.

“I did not want to get left behind or trampled by the herd.”

When asked whether he believes online poker for real money will become legal in the US, Gaughan responded:  “That’s what everybody says. Nevada passed online intrastate gambling in 2001. They haven’t written any regulations about it, but they passed it. Supposedly the Nevada Gaming Commission is going to come out with regulations for intrastate in January of 2012. So, what I’m trying to do is learn. I’ll probably apply for an intrastate license, and hope to get an interstate license if the Feds ever decide to pass anything.”
