37 individuals were arrested on Tuesday in New York and charged with running two illegal sports betting and loan-sharking operations. Those arrested include alleged members of the Gambino crime family.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said that wiretaps, video and audio surveillance, bugging devices and GPS tracking were all used to gather evidence as part of “Operation Flat Rate”.
The operations, which utilized an offshore call center, is said to have generated millions of dollars.
“These arrests cripple a network of criminal enterprises and the organized crime family they supported,” Schneiderman said. “The partnership between [the Organized Crime Task Force] and the [New York Police Department] provided the skills and resources needed to bring the 37 individuals charged here to justice, and our offices will continue our work to dismantle these criminal ventures.”
