Punta Cana Poker Classic 2011

Just prior to 7:30 pm local time, the 2011 Punta Cana Poker Classic bid farewell to two more players, leaving three to battle it out after the extended 1.5 hour dinner break.

The 4th place prize pays $33,615.  The third place prize will pay $54,779, 2nd pays $82,791 and 1st place pays an amazing $136,949.  That is close to three times as much as last year’s 1st place prize.

Gone are Jose Barria (6) and Engelberth Varela (5).

CrazyJulius called both:

Jose Barria raised and Carlos Sobenes made the call, flop came 2-9-7 and Barria bet out of turn, and the action went back to Sobenes, he says “All in” and Barria made the call.

Barria: A-7

Sobenes: K 9

The turn is the 2 of spades  and the river is the 8 of diamonds and Jose Barria is out of the tournament.

Engelberth Varela moved all in for his last 450,000 chips and Greg Bastin called.

Varela: A 5

Bastin: AQ

Engelbeth’s friends start rooting for him and they start calling for a 5 but the board came without it: K-7-3-2-3 and Bastin rakes in the pot.

Still left Demo Kirlopoulos Evan Mauer 5 Greg Bastin 2 Carlos Sobenes
