Philadelphia could be missing Michael Vick for a third straight game when it travels to Seattle on a short week Thursday night to face the Seahawks.
The Eagles have a big advantage talent-wise, but they’ve been inconsistent all year. There’s no telling what to expect from them when they visit CenturyLink Field, always a surprisingly tough place to play. The Seahawks most recently upended the Ravens at home, thanks to a +3 margin in the turnover department. The Eagles have been incredibly turnover-prone, giving it away 25 times with at least two turnovers in every game but three. Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch is the kind of power runner that will cause problems for Philly’s front seven, but Seattle’s run defense will be more exposed. Redskins rookie Roy Helu ran all over the Seahawks last week (108 yards on 23 carries) and Philly’s LeSean McCoy leads the NFL with 1,050 rushing yards. Philly QB Michael Vick (ribs) is not expected to be ready for this game, but Vince Young has been an adequate fill-in (329 passing YPG) in Vick’s absence. Since the start of 2010, the Eagles are 6-0 ATS on the road when the total is between 42.5 and 49 points.
Young threw for 400 yards in last week’s 38-20 loss to New England, but most of that production came after the game was well in hand. Young has completed 58% of his passes with 3 TD and 4 INT in his two starts, but there’s a small chance he could get starting WR Jeremy Maclin (shoulder/hamstring) back on the field. If Maclin can’t go, Riley Cooper has been a valuable sub, catching eight passes for 146 yards and a game-winning TD against the Giants) in two weeks with Young throwing the football. The Eagles pass defense allowed a season-high 353 net yards to Tom Brady last week, but they have done a nice job stuffing the run, allowing just 85 rushing YPG on 3.7 YPC in the past six weeks.
Seattle has lost three straight home meetings with Philadelphia, getting crushed 26-7 in the Eagles most recent visit in 2008. The Seahawks relinquished a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter of last week’s game to Washington, allowing the Redskins to score 16 points in the final 10 minutes of regulation. The loss dropped Seattle to 2-3 SU (3-2 ATS) at home this year. The Seahawks offense continues to struggle (16.8 PPG, last in NFC), and the likely absence of WR Sidney Rice (concussion) certainly doesn’t help. QB Tarvaris Jackson completed just 14-of-30 pass attempts against Washington, lowering his passer rating to 72.8, which ranks 29th of the 33 qualified QBs in the league. He has thrown 9 TD and 12 INT for the season. Lynch has been the one positive for the offense this year, especially in the month of November when he rushed for 443 yards with four total touchdowns in the four games. Seattle’s defense allowed the Redskins to run up 416 total yards of offense last week, but the unit has forced eight turnovers in the past three weeks.
