2008 WSOP: Peter Eastgate vs. Ivan Demidov
It was down to Dane Peter Eastgate (chip leader) and the fearless Russian Ivan Demidov at the 2008 WSOP heading into Monday's final play. These were the only two players remaining at this year's World Series of Poker.
With the elimination of Dennis Phillips in 3rd place shortly after 3 am EST, it was guaranteed that no American would win the 2008 World Series of Poker.
Eastgate is a 22-year old poker player from Odense, Denmark who stands to become the youngest winner of a World Series of Poker event.
Eastgate's prior results include a money finish in the 2008 European Poker Tour event in Copenhagen and a final table finish at the 2007 Irish Open.
Eastgate won his seat at the WSOP main event via the Ladbrokes Poker website, and travelled to Las Vegas as a part of their team. Later he switched his allegiances to Pokerstars.
Ivan Demidov is a 27-year old professional poker player from Moscow, Russia.
In October 2008 he also reached the final table of the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event in London, finishing in 3rd place. In doing so he became the only player in history to reach the final table of both Main Events.
