Jon Fitch (26-3-1) vs. Johny Hendricks (11-1-0)

Sportsbook.com Line: Fitch -220, Hendricks +180

Jon Fitch and Johny Hendricks square off on UFC 141’s main card in a welterweight bout that features two elite wrestlers.

The 28-year-old Hendricks has been extremely successful in his young career, winning ten of his first 11 fights. An expert wrestler who won two NCAA Division I titles in the sport, he is a dominant takedown artist who poses a significant challenge as the underdog. Similar to Hendricks, Fitch rules through takedowns and wrestling, and enters this match on a hot streak. He most recently took a draw against BJ Penn, but prior to that won five consecutively, following his loss in the welterweight championship bout against Georges St-Pierre. That was in 2008, however, and it is questionable whether the 33-year-old Fitch is still in the prime of his career. He should encounter a lot of trouble with his up-and-coming opponent.

Fitch (26-3-1) had his chance to be a title holder, but unfortunately ran into one of the sport’s best in St-Pierre. He regularly outlasts his opponents for victories, with his past six wins all coming via decision. 52% of his UFC skill breakdown comes in takedowns, and as a wrestler those are the bread and butter of his game. A key for him to pulling off this win as the favorite should be exploiting his height advantage over Hendricks, who is three inches smaller. Still, avoid playing on Fitch with the line tilted too much in his favor.

Hendricks (11-1) is also heavily invested in the takedown game as a wrestler, with an even heavier 57% takedown skill breakdown. Still, his game is more varied than Fitch’s because he also incorporates boxing and Jiu-Jitsu techniques, and has proven he can win without needing a decision. He has six career victories by knockout and four from decision.
