Updated chip counts shortly after 3 am EST at the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) had Denmark's Peter Eastgate as the first hundred million dollar man.

It was Peter Eastgate 100,300,000 Ivan Demidov 36,600,000!

Over 500,000 Danes were watching Eastgate as he stood to become the youngest WSOP winner ever.

Eastgate is a 22-year old poker player from Odense, Denmark, who promised a $450 payout for every $100 bet by his fellow Danes and those across the world at Sportsbook.com if he were to win.  That online gambling site was offering betting odds on each of the 9 finalists at this year's World Series of Poker.

Eastgate's prior results include a money finish in the 2008 European Poker Tour event in Copenhagen and a final table finish at the 2007 Irish Open.  Eastgate won his seat at the WSOP main event via the Ladbrokes Poker website, and travelled to Las Vegas as a part of their team. Later he switched his allegiances to Pokerstars.   His tournament winnings to date were around $40,000.

Eastgate was up against Ivan Demidov, who stood to pay out $400 for every $100 bet.  Demidov was - one of the hot stories coming into the 2008 WSOP.  He placed 3rd at this year's World Series of Poker Europe, the only player to ever place in two different World Series of Poker finals the same year.  Demidov is one of a growing number of Russian poker studs.

It was indeed a tough battle that had already played out over a two day period.  The 2008 WSOP resumed at 1 am EST Tuesday morning with the two remaining players.
