The 2nd round of the playoffs has now arrived and in the Western Conference the L.A Kings are looking to keep their magical run alive. The Kings came in as the 8th seed, but quickly knocked off the West’s top-seeded Vancouver Canucks in five games and are now up against #2 St Louis.
Belmont line and total for Game 1: St Louis -165/L.A +145 and 5
The Kings took the season series 3-1 SU from the Blues this year and true to both teams styles’ goals were hard to come by. There were two games that finished with 1-0 scores and one of them was actually a 0-0 game all the way until the shootout. The Kings took that game and that was the second time they shut out St Louis on the year. Not one game finished with more than 5 goals, so under bettors should be able to feast on this series, especially as the stakes get higher later on.

But for Game 1, the Blues need to hold court on home ice, something they were very accustomed to this season. They looked sharp against the Sharks in round 1 as they won four straight after dropping Game 1 in overtime. However, the Kings pose a different problem for Ken Hitchcock’s crew as the Kings are almost a mirror image of St Louis. Both teams rely heavily on blocking shots, sound goaltending and taking advantage of mistakes by their opponents.
This series will come down to who flinches first and the team that trails late in the series will have to jump out of their comfort zone and take some chances. For Game 1 though, expect a tight checking game where the “feeling out” process could take the first two periods. Both have great netminders and it is near impossible to imagine the game having more than 5 goals scored in it.
Take the under.
