Lesniak Says Christie Back on Board Regarding Internet Gambling: June 30 Target Date
State Sen. Ray Lesniak, D-Union, said that he believes that Governor Christie is “back on board” regarding online gaming, and predicted that the Legislature would pass a bill by the end of the session on June 30. This was according to John Brennan of NorthJersey.com.
Later Brennan issued the following notice:
Caution: Lesniak tends to be a bit of an optimist, so we’ll see.
3:45 pm UPDATE: Sure enough, I corraled Lesniak after the panel ended, and he conceded that his belief was “scuttlebutt, word on the street, whatever you want to call it.”
Lesniak’s bill to legalize online gambling in the Garden State sailed through the Assembly last week but the State Senator also suggested that Christie appeared more resistant to the legislation in recent weeks. Some say there are political agendas – Christie is currently on the short list of US Vice President picks. Others suggest that casino mogul Sheldon Adelson may be pressuring the Governor to shift his stance on Lesniak’s measure.
