Just as Revolution Gaming, Microgaming and the Merge Gaming Network had been fighting for the coveted number 9 position of most trafficked online poker networks, along comes PokerStars.es.

The Spain licensed online poker rooms/networks will now be counted separately following that nation’s new regulations.

888Poker.es bragged of being number two in the market but rank all the way down at number 27 worldwide.

"With a well thought-out strategy, excellent migration and penetration plan, we launched last week with an exceptionally strong offering!" says Itai Frieberger, COO of 888holdings." The fact that we have established a number two position in market share is a great sign for our future success in Spain."

Spain’s new conservative government has required that Web poker rooms having operated in the country previous to this year must pay back taxes prior to obtaining a license.

Bwin.Party, LBApuestas.com on the Microgaming Network and four Ongame Poker Network sites have successfully obtained gaming licenses in Spain over recent months.
