A bill to legalize online poker and other forms of Web gambling will be voted on in the state Senate on Tuesday (June 26, 2012). It is widely expected to pass.
The bill cleared a Senate committee Wednesday despite complaints from church leaders who say it is morally wrong. Delaware's harness racing industry also opposes the bill, saying its members wouldn't get a fair share of the gambling proceeds.
The bill, which was approved by the House last week, authorizes Delawareans to play slots and table games online. It also expands betting on NFL games to at least 20 more sites other than Delaware's three casinos, and expands the availability of keno to at least 100 sites.
The Markell administration seems in strong support of this legislation.
It is widely believed that Delaware would initially form compacts with both Rhode Island and West Virginia to provide online poker in those states should the measure be signed into law.
