Sports Bettors, Bookies Alike Rejoice Over Sunday Late NFL Games Being Pushed Back 10 Minutes

The National Football League on Thursday announced it will be moving Sunday afternoon late game kickoff times back 10 minutes from 4:15 pm to 4:25 pm EST.

“For sports bettor and bookmakers this is akin to an eternity,” noted Don Shapiro, Senior Sports Analyst for the Gambling911.com website, noting that several thousands of dollars more can be made over this time span.  “This means an additional 10 minutes worth of betting to supplement the live in-progress wagering that will take place during the games.”

Typically overconfident sports bettors who make out big on the early games will unload leading into the late afternoon games, but in the past have only had a limited time in which to do so.

The league’s reasoning is to reduce overlap of games by approximately 66 percent.

Maryland’s Nine Highest Earning Lobbyists had Casino Ties

(AP) — Maryland’s top lobbyists cashed in on the General Assembly’s casino debate this year, as the state’s nine highest-earning lobbyists all worked for companies with interests in a statewide gambling expansion.

Gambling organizations and groups tied to Maryland’s horse racing industry spent hundreds of thousands of dollars between Nov. 1, 2011 and April 30, in an effort to influence lawmakers to support their respective interests.

Penn National Gaming, the owner of Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, spent the most, with 877,432.84 reported, according to the Maryland State Ethics Commission’s twice-annual report.

The Pennsylvania casino group spent roughly $375,000 more than the next highest organization, the Maryland State Education Association.

DOVER, Del. (AP) — Gov. Jack Markell has signed a bill authorizing online betting in Delaware and more venues for sports wagering and other gambling.

Markell signed the measure Thursday, less than 24 hours after it narrowly passed the state Senate. The Senate vote was marred by controversy as a Democratic lawmaker who opposed the bill mistakenly voted for it, thinking he was voting for an amendment instead.
