Casualties of WSOP: Some Notable World Series of Poker 2012 Eliminations

Heading into Tuesday’s play there were several noteworthy eliminations spanning a three-day period.

WSOP record bracelet holder Phil Hellmuth was among the first to go during Day 1-A play.  Not to shed a tear for Phil, he cashed out in 6 of this year’s World Series of Poker events, winning a grand total of $3 million.  He also walked away with his 12th bracelet. 

Hellmuth, who won the 1989 WSOP Main Event, was met at the rails by 2005 champ Joe Hachem, 1993 champ Jim Bechtel and the 2010 “WSOP Player of the Year” Frank Kassela. 

Actor Ray Romano was also shown the door along with famed female poker player Kathy Liebert.  

Notable exits during Day 1-B included Greg “Fossilman” Raymer, Scotty Nguyen, Adam Friedman, Theo Jorgensen, Todd Brunson, Bertrand Grospellier and Men “The Master” Nguyen.

Day 1-C witnessed the elimination of 2003 Main Event champion Chris Moneymaker, the man most agree sparked the modern day boom in poker.  2010 champ Jonathan Duhamel was also sent to the rails. 

Among the notable survivors after three days of play were Big One For One Drop champ, Antonio Esfandiari, who won the richest prize in poker history last week ($18 million).  Also surviving was last year’s Main Event champ Pius Heinz. 



Day 1-A survivors (from Saturday) will continue play on Tuesday as a segregated group.  The restart will be at noon.

Day 1-B survivors (from Sunday) will also continue play on Tuesday as a segregated group.  The restart will also be a noon.

Day 1-C survivors (from Monday) will enjoy and off day and return to play on Wednesday, at noon.
