BOSTON — (Associated Press) - MGM Resorts has asked the state's new gambling commission to reconsider its proposal to prequalify potential bidders for casino licenses in Massachusetts.

The Las Vegas company said in a letter released by the panel on Tuesday that the two-step process would unnecessarily slow the bidding process and waste time and resources.

The commission is seeking to prequalify casino developers and determine whether they have adequate financial resources before moving on to formal bids for licenses.

MGM scrapped a plan to develop a resort casino in the town of Brimfield but the company is continuing to look for other potential sites in western Massachusetts.
