A bad beat jackpot spread out across five different Atlantic City casinos paid out around $800,000 to 411 poker players Monday, the largest amount in two years since inception of the bad beat jackpot concept.  Caesars Entertainment offered the jackpots.

“Record-setting jackpots were made to be won,” Don Marrandino, Caesars’ eastern division president said in a statement.

Bad beat jackpots are especially popular online at Web cardrooms the likes of Carbon Poker.  They pay out prizes any time a strong hand loses to an even stronger hand held by an opposing player.

The multicasino Texas Hold’em Poker Room Bad Beat Jackpot was introduced by Caesars in 2010 with a starting jackpot of $524,045.
