Monarch Casino & Resort Inc, owners of Reno Nevada’s Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, received final approval to operate an online poker venture within the Silver State’s borders on Thursday.  Las Vegas hotel and casino, South Point, and Global Cash Assets Holdings were also granted a license by the state Gaming Commission.

“There are multiple steps. We are evaluating several interactive poker software providers and intend to partner with the provider that can offer the best quality product to our guests,” David Farahi, chief operating officer, said after the Nevada Gaming Commission’s approval in a Las Vegas meeting.

The license allows online poker only within the state’s borders.  A New York Supreme Court judge ruled earlier in the week that poker is a “game of skill” and not “gambling”, which could open the door for Nevada to form multi-state compacts similar to that of the state lottery Powerball platform.
